A report by the PCMC said that around 7,360 Covishield doses worth Rs 46.36 lakh were lying with 20 private hospitals in Pimpri Chinchwad which would expire in the next 35 days.

The private hospitals said that they were ready to donate these vaccines to PCMC-run centres, through a notification, if the district administrations and municipal corporations permitted the same.

A similar report by the PMC two days ago, stated that 1.24 lakh Covishield doses, worth Rs 7.81 crore, were lying with private hospitals in Pune city and all would expire within March 31. Among these 1.09 lakh doses were lying in Jupiter Hospital in Baner and would expire by March 5.

According to the PCMC′s stock report, an overall total of 1.28 lakh vaccine doses were lying unused at private hospitals within its jurisdiction. The PCMC’s senior health official, Dr Laxman Gophane said that they were looking into the matter of how to utilize these doses being donated by private hospitals only after proper scrutiny.

Aditya hospital in Pimple Nilakh had 860 doses with March 11 expiry and one of their representatives said that they were happy that these doses would be used up in government-run centres instead of being wasted.
